| Upon completion of the class, students receive a Wisconsin DNR permit. This permit is required for anyone between the ages of 12-15 to operate a motorboat in Wisconsin. Any boat operator under the age of 15 (but at least 12) must have this permit on board the boat while operating. The class covers all rules of the water, safety considerations, required equipment, rights of way, and types of boats. It does not teach actual hands-on boat driving. Boat driving lessons are the responsibility of the boat owner or an experienced operator of the particular boat to be driven.
